Vacation Packing Cheat Sheet
As I’ve learned in all my vacations, it’s always best to go prepared on a beach trip. It’s convenient to pack light and just bring the essentials. To prevent electronics, money and jewelry from getting lost or stolen, I always take them with me and store them in a sturdy, airtight waterproof bag (Alok Sak works perfectly fine). I bring comfortable clothing – mostly rugged, and one or two formal tops and a nice beach dress for the occasional fancy lunch or dinner. Men should also bring either polo shirts or button down shirts and cargo shorts besides board shorts and swim trunks. I actually have a cheat sheet kept at home for reference whenever I need to pack. Here are most of the necessary items in my list:
- 2 fabulous swimsuits with complementary sarong or beach wrap
- underwear
- flip flops
- tanks/camis
- accessories such as chunky necklace or earrings
- shorts
- durable plastic bag for laundry
- shampoo/conditioner/razor/shaving cream/lotion
- sunglasses
- sunscreen with at least 30 SPF and SPF lip balm
- deodorant
- hairbrush/toothbrush/dental floss
- bug repellent
- medicines: pain reliever, for upset stomach and allergies
- Lysol
- camera and cell phone with charger
The best way to minimize expenses is to bring your own stuff and avoid buying in the resort where prices are jacked up. Spend your money on something else you’ll enjoy like beach activities, food and drinks instead.
