Pets on Vacation
St. George Island is one of the few beaches in Florida that allows vacationers to bring along their dogs or cats. You can have a more relaxing vacation when you don’t have to worry if your pet has been fed, bathed and properly looked after back at home. There are many vacation rental homes in St. George Island that allows pets and even offer pet sitting so you have some free time for personal recreation.
When traveling with pets, always remember to bring a collar for identification, leash, pet food and poop bag so you don’t leave any waste behind. Make sure they are vaccinated against rabies. Also bring their favorite toys, treats, comb or brush, dog shampoo and medication. In Apalachicola, you can find custom shirts and collars, pet clothing, holistic dog and cat food at Petunia, a store specializing in pet care and supplies. In case of emergency, bring your pet to Apalachicola Bay Animal Clinic in Eastpoint, Fl.
Always read the terms and conditions on bringing pets in some parts of the island. The St. George Island State Park allows pets in some designated day-use areas only, with hand held leash of 6 feet or shorter. Dogs are allowed in some areas of the island, provided they are well-behaved or in compliance with leash laws. It is now becoming a trend for families to travel with their pets for a genuinely fun and complete vacation. Don’t leave your pets behind when you want to go on a trip: let them have a vacation too!
