In Pursuit of Dolphins
Dolphin sightings are always a magical experience. Children and adults who want to be up close and personal with dolphins during their stay at St. George Island will not be disappointed. Simply rent a boat and a tour guide to bring you near their area. These highly intelligent, gentle, curious and social marine mammals sometimes swim along the boat so prepare your camera (better use a waterproof one) or binoculars if ever you spot them from afar.
There are some things to keep in mind during a dolphin trip. Dolphins are wild creatures so do not attempt to touch or feed them because they may bite your hand. Dolphin attacks, although rare, do happen if they are hounded. The best thing about this activity is that kids learn not only about the habitat, way of life and facts about dolphins but how to conserve and protect them from extinction and being hunted as well.
Vacationers will surely have an exhilarating time encountering dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico. The months of April through October are best for dolphin sightings because of warmer waters, better weather and clearer visibility.
